What is GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) aims to protect people’s personal data and right to privacy. Effective from 25 May 2018, it applies to all organisations that process the data of European residents.

GDPR guidelines emphasise that people’s right to privacy and data protection come before the interest of any organisation. If you want to collect and use personal data, you need to have very good reasons to do so, and follow GDPR’s rules all the way.

How can recruiters and hiring teams comply with GDPR?

GDPR compliance is no easy feat, especially for functions like recruitment, which rely heavily on the daily processing of candidate data. Make sure to collect only the data you really need to evaluate candidates, in a transparent way. Help candidates exercise their rights under GDPR (like the ‘right to erasure’). Find more detailed information in our GDPR for recruiters guide and GDPR checklist.

A good Applicant Tracking System (ATS) will be a powerful ally. It can automate processes, like deleting old data, provide resources to send transparent emails, build a compliant privacy notice and more. Get a free GDPR consultation from our recruiting experts.
